The French minimum wage (SMIC) will increase by 2.41% as of June 1, 2026, following the automatic indexation mechanism linked to inflation. This adjustment results in higher gross and net earnings for full-time employees across France.

Why is the French minimum wage (SMIC) increasing in 2026?

The SMIC is automatically adjusted based on changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by INSEE, the French national statistics institute. A revaluation is triggered when inflation rises by at least 2% since the last adjustment.

In April 2026, INSEE reported a 2.2% year-on-year inflation rate, driven mainly by rising energy prices (particularly oil) in a global context affected by geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

As a result, the legal mechanism triggers a 2.41% increase in the SMIC effective June 1, 2026.
