In France, an employee seconded from a company established outside France in the construction sector is required to be in possession of their professional identification card. The same applies to an employee of a French company since 1 October 2017.

The BTP (Bâtiment et Travaux publics – Building and Public Works) card was introduced as part of the plan to combat illegal employment, with the aim of preventing potential cases of fraud on construction sites. From now on, if the French authorities carry out an inspection on a building or public works site, all workers will be required to show their individual BTP card.

It should be noted that in the event of irregularity or failure to present the BTP card of one or more employees, the company is liable to a fine of €2,000 per employee and per offence, and €4,000 in the event of a repeat offence.

What information should appear on the BTP card?

The employee’s professional identification card is an individual card on which the following information appears:

  • The worker’s passport photograph;
  • A QR code showing all the employer’s details, which will be scanned by the inspector;
  • The employee’s personal details: surname, first name, date of birth, nationality, employer and status (seconded employee, temporary worker or employee).

What steps do I need to take to obtain my BTP card?

The application can only be made online by the company. ASD Group has created ASD SPW, an online service dedicated to facilitating this formality. We can apply for any number of BTP cards and have them delivered directly to you within a few days. Order it now from our e-shop.
